Defy The Worlds by Claudia Gray (non-spoiler review) // dark, death and disease

Book: Defy The Worlds by Claudia Gray

Rating: 4 stars

To avoid spoiling anything from the first book, the synopsis is here!

I loved the first book and was eagerly anticipating the second!

I feel like the middle of the book got a bit boring for me. I did love all the action! The start was really engaging and that ending was so good! I can’t wait to see what happens in the final book.

This book felt a bit darker too. There was a lot of disease and as a consequence suffering + death. Some scenes did feel a bit harrowing to me.

I love the questions this book brings up! What’s the value of life? Who gives you say over what to do with the consciousness of someone you love. It’s not like you’d ever be in that position but I loved seeing both sides of the argument. It was really interesting!

I will say I didn’t enjoy this as much as the first book even though I’m giving them the same rating. The first book was more interesting in terms of discussing what it truly means to be human, and while this book brings up some really interesting discussion points, I loved the first one a bit more.

I love them all! Character growth was so great and Noemi and Abel are so enjoyable to read about. I love Noemi’s loyalty and strength and Abel’s just plain awesome 🙂

Amid of the action, their romance is still done nicely! They disagree but talk things out and while it isn’t the main focus of the story (which I’m glad it’s not) I still really enjoy it.

A shorter, bullet point review can be found on my Goodreads here.

  2. Hmm, sounds like a nicely cerebral read! I’m glad you enjoyed the characters, and so many books base their romance around miscommunication, so nice to hear that wasn’t the case here. 🙂 Nice review!
