The Nope Book Tag // Am I A Seagull Yet?

Nope Nope Nope. Welcome to the tag where I end up sounding like the seagulls from Finding Nemo, but it’s okay because Finding Nemo was one of my favourite movies growing up (and being a seagull? sure I guess…)

I was tagged by Andie @ Andrea’s Nirvana and LaRonda @ FlyingPaperbacks to do The Nope Book Tag, so here it is! Thank you two so much! Please check out their blogs ❤

The creator of the tag can be found here, so check that out as well!

So nope is something I say a lot in life. When reading and not accepting what’s happening (honestly you can’t harm my favourite character. They don’t deserve this and nether do I) or just in school when I can’t deal with Chemistry (that’s a lot of the time)

THE NOPE BOOK TAG

NOPE. Ending: A book ending that made you go NOPE either in denial, rage, or simply because the ending was crappy.

7664041

Inheritance by Christopher Paolini

I loved this series. The books are so massive and intimating. The font is so small and the books are so lengthy, but I sat myself down and invested myself into this world and this story. I love the world and its characters so dearly, but AFTER ALL THAT READING I DO NOT ACCEPT THAT AS AN ENDING. I need answers and just nope nope nope, it was so open ended.

NOPE. Protagonist: A main character you dislike and drives you crazy.

10194157

Alina Starkov

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

I really enjoyed this series, but I did not like Alina. She annoyed me and while I didn’t hate her, I did get really frustrated with her.

NOPE. Series: A series that turned out to be one huge pile of NOPE after you’ve invested all of that time and energy on it, or a series you gave up on because it wasn’t worth it anymore.

386162

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series

These books are really strange and weird, but fun as well. I really enjoyed the first one but the next few books were just kind of eh for me. So while I’ll always love the first book, I don’t see myself finishing the other 4 or so books.

NOPE. Popular pairing: A “ship” you don’t support.

harry potter ron GIF-downsized.gif

Hermione and Ron

I’m sorry ah. I love them both separately, but I’ve never been a fan of the two of them together.

NOPE. Plot twist: A plot twist you didn’t see coming or didn’t like.

29385546

Warcross by Marie Lu

Really I should’ve seen it coming and I think I was in denial, but I loved it!

NOPE. Protagonist action/decision: A character decision that made you shake your head NOPE.

Clary Fray

The Mortal Instruments

Ah. I love The Infernal Devices and The Dark Artifices, but I’ve never been the biggest fan of TMI and the MC is part of the reason why. She just made a lot of decisions that made me scream WHY and yep there’s that.

NOPE. Genre: A genre you will never read.

Same as Andie. Erotica. Sarah J Maas’ sex scenes are already too much for me so I don’t think it’s for me.

NOPE. Book format: Book formatting you hate and avoid buying until it comes out in a different edition

So after a while the paperback editions of books get reprinted and the size is smaller and the spine is so easy to crack. I guess it is more conventional then those huge floppy paperbacks they’re originally released as, but one FLOPPY PAPERBACKS WILL RULE THE WORLD and two BREAKING THE SPINE PAINS ME.

(does that happen everywhere else? Or just Australia? In Australia it’s quite rare to find hardbacks actually)

NOPE. Trope: A trope that makes you go NOPE.

‘wow im a peasant and this prince/hot guy/hot prince is into me imma die’

*okay that might be way too over dramatic but I’m done with them come fight me

**for real though, what I mean is the usual trope of the girl who doesn’t think she’s pretty or strong who actually is and then has a male love interest who’s all hot and broody. Sure it sells, but the romance I like is where both the characters are strong without the other and the romance strengthens them (does that make sense? So for example the romance in Stalking Jack The Ripper + To Kill A Kingdom)

NOPE. Recommendation: A book recommendation that is constantly hyped and pushed at you that you simply refuse to read.

I’m honestly willing to give most books a try.

NOPE. Cliche/pet peeve: A cliche or writing pet peeve that always makes you roll your eyes.

Love triangles. PERIOD.

NOPE. Love interest: The love interest that’s not worthy of being one. A character you don’t think should have been a viable love interest.

Simon Lewis

The Mortal Instruments

I don’t like the childhood best friend turned boyfriend situation. I could never think of my child hood friends like that (ever. it’s impossible for me to even imagine) and maybe some people can, but that’s why it just didn’t work for me.

NOPE. Book: A book that shouldn’t have existed that made you say NOPE.

34275232

The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert

I I think this may be a bit too extreme. I don’t despise any book to the point where I think it’s existence should be wiped out, but I really didn’t enjoy this, mainly because I found it problematic.

NOPE. Villain: A scary villain/antagonist you would hate to cross and would make you run in the opposite direction.

black panther trailer GIF-downsized.gif

Erik Killmonger

Black Panther

THIS IS A PSA THAT I LOVE MARVEL. Killmonger was a great villain, but terrifying as well.

NOPE. Death: A character death that still haunts you.

THE BOOK THIEF IS MY FAVOURITE BOOK EVER AND THATS ALL IM GONNA SAY IM UPSET BYEEEE

(also no gif here because I was looking at them and now I’m basically crying wow)

NOPE. Author: An author you had a bad experience reading for and have decided to quit.

None I don’t think. I shall read all the books.

So I loved this tag because I basically got to rant a lot? + if you’re wondering if I’m always this weird? Yes. Yes I am.

img_6092-1

Also answer me honestly, did I use too many gifs?

(cause I know I did, but they’re fun)

(also why is’t my text centred when it should be, what do I do?)

  1. Huh, I’m very curious about how Inheritance ends now. I read the first two books as a kid (I THINK I enjoyed them?) but I fell off the wagon during the wait haha. And yes, SJM sex scenes are pretty cringe! Erotica is a definite no for me.

And OMG YES, those tiny paperbacks with thick spines kill me because they literally crack after you’ve been reading for like, ten minutes? It drives me NUTS.

    1. Ahh I’d think I probably wouldn’t have finished the series if I had to wait because I’d forget everything ahah. The ending just felt so unsatisfying to me but overall I did enjoy the series!

Right?! I kinda skim read the sex scenes but then you also need to read them because sometimes they’re having conversations and talking about important things beforehand and it’s an awkward experience in general.

YES ITS SO TERRIBLE. I was taking Bookstagram photos with my SOC paperback and I was trying to get a picture of the chapter header and I felt it bend and I still feel very anguished gah

      1. Yup, sex scenes are such an awkward time to deliver exposition and dialogue. And hahaha I feel your pain on having a book bend under your very own fingers; it’s like breaking the back of your own friend lmao XD
