Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (non-spoiler review) // yes I’m still screaming

Book: Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Rating: 4.5 stars

Synopsis:

Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik narrowly escaped with their lives from the attacks on Heimdall station and now find themselves crammed with 2,000 refugees on the container ship, Mao. With the jump station destroyed and their resources scarce, the only option is to return to Kerenza—but who knows what they’ll find seven months after the invasion?

Meanwhile, Kady’s cousin, Asha, survived the initial BeiTech assault and has joined Kerenza’s ragtag underground resistance. When Rhys—an old flame from Asha’s past—reappears on Kerenza, the two find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict.

With time running out, a final battle will be waged on land and in space, heroes will fall, and hearts will be broken.

INITIAL THOUGHTS

I loved Illuminae but didn’t like Gemina as much. I still lovee the series and couldn’t wait to start the third book.

PLOT

Oh my gosh. what. what. what. This was so amazing and my favourite of the three books. I thought it was such a good ending to the story and honestly? I did feel like tearing up reading this. I had to put the book down during this one part and AHHHHHHHHHHH

For real though, so much action and plot. Not the same way as Illuminae and Gemina, but in this book we deal with humans (i say that like i’m not human ha). The survivors and their pain and grief and I had to know what was going to happen and of course that meant not putting the book down. I loved it and I feel like it’s such a solid and well executed finale.

EXECUTION

The formatting of the book makes it feel like this big journey and it’s so immersive that I’m so upset it’s over. It’s so unique and I. HAVE. SO MUCH. LOVE. FOR. IT.

CHARACTERS

I’ve grown to love these character so much and I have no words? Kady who is so strong and Ezra who was a favourite from page one. Hanna and Nik who I didn’t love but have grown to, and their relationship and connection (which I found a bit lacking in Gemina) was really focused on in this book.

AIDAN AIDAN AIDAN. My dear lord. My absolute favourite from the first book and his character in this BOOK. SCREAMS

TL;DR If you haven’t read/started this series drop everything and do it because you will not be disappointed.

*okay also Australian authors yay!

**also salty that they did tour Australia, but not my city

    1. It is!! I definitely found the first book hard to get through and I actually put it down because the formatting is kind of disorienting, but I picked it up again and flew through it! The format is what makes it so special. Ahh hope you enjoy the series!
